Het project in het kort door Federatie van Somalische Associatie
FSAN is the umbrella organisation of Somali organisations in the Netherlands. FSAN spearheads the campaign against FGM practices.
Zahra Naleie is considered as expert in FGM and has been asked several times to act as resource person in various research,
conferences, media production, etc.
FGM is widely practice in Somalia but also in the Netherlands. FSAN would like to involve key Somali women leaders in the Netherland
s in the intensive awareness campaign to break the taboo. FSAN argues that FGM has nothing to do with religion but an age-old
tradition. Its negative impact on Somali girls has been very disastrous.
FSAN requests financial assistance in the amount of 2,066 euro to cover the expenses in holding a work conference in September.
The objectives of this conference are:
- To bring together some Somali activities who are involved in FGM issues to exchange ideas, knowledge, and experiences on FGM.
- To discuss how to build bridge and linkages between Somali activists in Somalia and the Netherlands.
- To come up with recommendations for further action.
