Het project in het kort door Nederlands Palestina Komitee
On 16th May 2009 NPK is organising a one day event with two key speakers from abroad at the De Balie, Amsterdam. The event is
called `Naar een op rechten gebaseerde oplossing` and the two key note speakers are Ali Abunimah (Palestinian-American intellectual
and author) and Steven Friedman (South African academic, Director of Centre for the Study of Democracy at Univ. of Johannesburg).
In addition Hajo Meijer from Een Andere Joods Geluid would also share the podium. The organisers recognise that with division
between Fatah and Hamas and the election of a right wing Government in Israel there is a political stagnation in the region.
Traditional theories and scenarios do not offer much hope. Therefore there is a need for alternative thinking based in international
law refocusing public attention to other possibilities for achieving peace in the region. Abunimah is a well respected Palestinian-
American intellectual and author and the founder of Electronic Intifada. He is also the author of One Country-A bold proposal to
end Israeli-Palestinian Impasse. Steven Friedman will talk about the South Africanisation of Palestine.
