Het project in het kort door HTIB -Turkse Arbeidsvereniging Nede
"Genoeg is Genoeg" is a platform initiated by about 30 secular and religious national organizations of migrants and refugees. The
platform enjoys a broad support from popular personalities in the Netherlands and organisations with diverse political and religious
persuasions (students, women`s groups, cultural organisations, labour unions, Jewish groups, mosques, sports federations, political
parties and practically all federations and networks of migrant organisations). The platform was formally formed last March 2005
and being run and managed by volunteers under the leadership of Mohamed Rabbae.
The platform is organising a large national demonstration on September 17 to call the attention of the Dutch public about the
polarisation at all levels and sectors of the Dutch society, which heightened since September 11, 2001. Issues that dominate the
mainstream media such as terrorism, asylum seekers, Islam, fundamentalism, etc. reinforce misinformation among the public which
eventually lead in widening the gap and increasing hostilities in the Dutch society. Discrimination and racial harassment take the
form of threats, of physical violence and verbal harassment. Often however, it can be much subtler. Netherlands has now the highest
number of race-related incidents in the Europe.
"Genoeg is Genoeg" stimulates open, inclusive, and constructive dialogues that lead to better understanding among all peoples and
advocates combating all forms of prejudice and discrimination. It gathers and mobilises constructive initiatives, which promote
understanding, respect, and peaceful co-existence. The initiators believe that prejudice and discrimination influence people to
take extreme -right position on whatever issues and beliefs they espouse to. This prevailing trend must be a serious concern for
everyone in the society. The platform likewise aims to call the attention of the policy makers that discriminatory policies
contribute to the closing of windows of opportunities for people regardless of their race, sex, religion and political affiliation
to live in peace and harmony. Additionally, the initiators believe that in a society composed of multicultural groups and diverse
religious background, representative governance is needed which works for inclusion of all people instead of exclusion.
Novib supports this initiative in the amount of Euro 10.000
